Istanbul | I. Pedestrianisation And Improvement Project For Sirkeci Hocapasa District | September 2008 – March 2009 | LMS Digital Media
The project jointly designed by the scholars of Siegen University and Yildiz Technical University aims at finding solutions to the temporary quality loss caused by the Marmara excavations in Sirkeci and improving the architectural identity of public spheres. Among the projects purposes are: providing a healthier living environment in Hocapasa district, one of the most active commerce and tourism centers of the Historical Peninsula, improving the multifunctional pedestrian areas and public spaces within the district, highlighting and protecting the cultural heritage, and preparation of the preliminary plans and design guidelines for the district. This multiplayer and multilateral project is handled as an analytical scientific study, scrutinizing the urban trends and viewing “pedestrianization and improvement” concepts as a field of current culture. The benefits expected from the project can be summarized as: providing a healthy living environment in Hocapafla district, located within the Historical Peninsula, with its environs and public spaces, putting emphasis on the cultural texture, enabling a healthy and sustainable use of the area in terms of commerce and tourism.
